1398104_10153458774055464_1569274497_oContemporary Dance is the UK’s fastest growing art form. More than 4.8 million people regularly attend community dance groups each year in England alone. Contemporary is great for losing weight, maintaining strong bones, improving posture and muscle strength, increasing balance and co-ordination and beating stress. One of the best things about dancing is that while you’re having fun moving to music and meeting new people, you’re getting all the health benefits of a good workout.

These classes range from ages four all the way to adults. The adult classes don’t have a restriction on age and none of the classes have ability restrictions.

IMG_0188edit1Contemporary is a very creative genre of dance which focuses on performance quality rather than following rules. All students are welcome at our classes, age or abilities don’t matter! Everyone gets a chance to join in. Children spend this class working on their International Dance Rewards where they gain certificates and badges for their hard work. There are 9 levels for students to complete. They also learn pieces that will be performed at events around Southampton and in our end of year show in June!

Children are required to wear the dance school’s uniform. School tops are available for purchase from Bryony or Kiri and are £10.00 each. Uniform helps to promote focus and belonging to the school, so we like to encourage parents to buy them for the students.

Students are given the opportunity to work on their strength building and flexibility in a safe and certified environment with qualified teachers

Tuesday classes run at Lordshill Community Centre, Cromarty Road, Southampton, SO16 8LX
Wednesday & Thursday classes take place at Freemantle United Reformed Church which is 257 Shirley Road, SO15 3HS, next to St. Marks School. There is a map available at the bottom of the page.

IMG_0962editClasses are taught by Bryony Pickup, who has a degree and masters in Contemporary Dance & membership to NATD & IDTA. Bryony also enjoys performing and started her own events company in 2018 called Pickup Events.

Children’s classes are £7.00 per session but the first class is only half price at £3.50. We offer a 15% sibling/multiple class discount. This was implemented at the start of 2018 to make sure that students have the option to take classes in as many genres as they would like! We also offer half term payments which work out cheaper. This information will be provided in your new students pack.
